Something To Stand On…

While reading to my boys the other day  I came across a cute a quirky story in a children’s literature

book that I have had since before our boys were born.

The story is A Hole Is To Dig: By Ruth Krauss.

(A First Book Of First Definitions)

It’s a story that produced laughter from both my older boys, ages 4 and 7.

The Beginning starts out:

Mashed potatoes are to give everybody enough

A face is so that you can make faces

A face is something to have on the front of your head

  Dogs are to kiss people

 Hands are to hold

A hand is to hold up when you want your turn

As I read through it…as usual I seemed to look past its silliness and think seriously about it’s content.

It continues and by the third page says:

Buttons are to keep people warm

The world is so you have something to stand on

The sun is to tell you when it’s every day

It goes on and on, and it’s so silly…

Although silly, as I was sitting there reading it I thought about the line that says:

The world is so you have something to stand on…

The world is so you have something to stand on…?

Think about it…God created this whole world…not just to stand on…but a place where Believers can tell

all about how the world was created and by whom…

*Mark 16:15

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.

*Colossians 1:23

if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant

Just the absolute fact that the Lord created the world and all that’s in it is so humanly hard to fathom…yet in the scripture…and by just looking out your window at the amazing beauty of each season’ that passes by, explains it all perfectly. (Genesis 1:1)

Then it says:

The sun is to tell you when it’s every day

He created Light…the sun…so that we know it’s day…the earth was void of light when he created it,

but saw fit that light was needed.

It’s our everyday clock in a sence. Some people can tell the time of day

just by looking at the placement of the sun…unreal…He knew our need…even for the light of day and it’s warmth…

He gave something to stand on…not just the world…but with a Faith in Jesus that we can stand firm on…in His Gospel…in His Word..

we can stand strong and know that the foundation under our feet remains stable and unchanging…just like Him.

I love it when the Lord uses moments like this in my life.

Who would have thought? Reading a child’s storybook brought thoughts of thankfulness

and scripture to my heart.

Those moments are precious.
